Since we are early in the season please remember to:

• Turn on your outside water faucet(s)
• Keep your pets off the deck once it is washed as muddy footprints may show through the honey and cedar tones
• Keep your patio set and grill in storage until after the deck is done.
• Remind me of what day your lawn service is especially when sealing your stamped concrete / pavers / patios
• Remember to turn your sprinklers off for a couple of days to allow the deck the time necessary to dry out (we all know there is at least one sprinkler head that malfunctions each year , hopefully it’s not the one near the deck/patio

FYI – Don’t let any power washing company put stain down yet.

It is too early and the stain will fail. Most stains need 50 degrees plus around the clock and the wood needs to dry out, which takes longer at lower temperatures.

We can power wash now, but we are still about 10-14 days out for stain application.

Maintenance is something we sometimes put off on our cars. Should we change the oil at 3,000 or 4,000 or 5,000 miles? We know if we neglect the maintenance our engine could fail and leave a stuck with an expensive repair bill, when all we had to do is pay $20-$30 for an oil change.

Your deck is another item you own which requires maintenance at regular intervals. The maintenance cost is only a fraction of what it would take to replace all the wood. If you have a cedar deck the cost to wash and restore your deck might be equal to replacing 10 boards.

What is certain is that spending a little every couple of years will defend against a huge repair bill of rebuilding or replacing the deck. Our services start as low as $99 and 90% of our decks are less the $500 for both washing and staining. Your cost may be as little as $1 per square foot or as high as $2 per square foot. The cost to replace an average 500 square foot cedar deck with railings may run you around $10,000 or $20 a square foot.

Deck maintenance is also extremely important when you are tying to sell your house as it is a very cost effective way to enhance your home’s curb appeal.
